Detailed: 22-Day Kenya Tanzania Rwanda Wildlife, Primate & Cultural Adventure
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Welcome to Kenya. Your guide meets you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and drives you to Ole Sereni Hotel. The hotel overlooks Nairobi National Park, so zebras and giraffes often graze in view. Rest, swim, or stretch your legs after the flight. Nairobi stands out as the only capital city with a national park on its edge.
In the afternoon, visit the Karen Blixen Museum. The farmhouse tells the story of colonial-era Kenya. Next, stop at the Kazuri Beads Centre, where local women shape and paint ceramic beads by hand. In the evening, your guide hosts a welcome briefing. Then enjoy a Kenyan dinner of nyama choma and ugali.
Day 2: Nairobi to Lake Naivasha
After breakfast, stop at the Giraffe Centre in Karen. You feed Rothschild’s giraffes from a raised platform. Then you drive northwest across the Great Rift Valley. The road climbs the escarpment, and the views stretch for miles. By midday, you reach Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge. Lunch follows on the garden terrace.
In the afternoon, take a boat ride on the lake. Hippos surface beside you, and fish eagles call from the papyrus. Then walk among giraffes and zebras on Crescent Island. For culture, visit a local flower farm and meet the workers who supply Europe’s florists. Alternatively, cycle through Hell’s Gate National Park with your guide.
Day 3: Naivasha to Masai Mara
Today you drive to the Masai Mara, Kenya’s most famous reserve. The road becomes rougher, but the scenery rewards every bump. You pass Maasai herders guiding cattle across open land. By early afternoon, you reach Mara Serena Safari Lodge. A cool drink and lunch welcome you.
Later, you set out on your first game drive. Lions, elephants, and giraffes often appear within minutes. The golden light makes the grassland glow. Back at the lodge, join a Maasai storytelling session by the fire. Your hosts explain herding traditions, beadwork, and warrior songs. This evening opens the 22-Day Kenya Tanzania Rwanda Wildlife, Primate & Cultural Adventure with real energy.
Day 4: Full Day in the Masai Mara
Today belongs to the Mara. You leave at sunrise with a packed breakfast. Big cats hunt most actively in the cool early hours. Your guide positions the vehicle for the best sightings and photographs. Between July and October, you may watch wildebeest gather at the Mara River.
Midday brings a picnic lunch beside a hippo pool. Afterwards, you search for cheetahs, hyenas, and rhinos. Binoculars and a field guide travel with you in the vehicle. At sunset, return to the lodge for a sundowner on the terrace. Meanwhile, the sky turns orange and purple. Dinner follows under the stars.
Day 5: Mara Game Drive and Maasai Village
This morning, you take a final game drive along the Talek River. Resident prides and large elephant families patrol this area. Your guide shares photography tips for low light. Then you return to the lodge for a relaxed brunch.
In the afternoon, you visit a Maasai village near the reserve. The community welcomes you with a traditional jumping dance. You learn how families build homes, make fire, and care for cattle. Moreover, you can try beadwork with the women’s cooperative. Purchases from the craft market go directly to local households. You then return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 6: Fly to the Serengeti
After breakfast, you board a scheduled flight toward the Serengeti. The route crosses the Kenya-Tanzania border. From the window, you often spot herds moving across the plains below. Border formalities take place at the airstrip. Your Tanzanian guide then meets you and starts a game drive.
Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge sits on a ridge with sweeping views. You check in, enjoy lunch, and rest briefly. Later, you explore the Seronera area, famous for leopards resting in sausage trees. In the evening, Maasai and Sukuma performers share traditional dances at the lodge. Their rhythms give you a warm introduction to Tanzanian culture.

Day 7: Full Day in the Serengeti
The Serengeti covers nearly 15,000 square kilometres. Today, you explore it with a picnic lunch and an expert guide. The plains hold lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and thousands of grazing animals. Because the herds move constantly, your guide reads the land daily. Radio contact with other drivers helps locate the best action.
During the midday break, visit the Simba Kopjes or a hippo pool. These granite outcrops offer a high viewpoint over the plains. Back at the lodge, explore the small display on Serengeti history. Dinner follows under a sky full of stars. Few places on earth reveal the Milky Way so clearly. Therefore, bring a camera that handles night skies.
Day 8: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands
After an early game drive, you leave the plains and drive toward Ngorongoro. The route passes Olduvai Gorge, often called the cradle of humankind. A small museum there explains the fossil discoveries of the Leakey family. This stop adds a rich human story to your wildlife journey.
You reach Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge in the afternoon. The lodge clings to the crater rim, and every room offers dramatic views. Relax with tea on the terrace as mist rolls across the caldera. In the evening, Maasai neighbours visit with songs and stories. They show how their herds share the highlands with wildlife.
Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater and Karatu
At dawn, you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. This collapsed volcano shelters about 25,000 large animals. Black rhinos, lions, hippos, and flamingos live within its walls. The enclosed ecosystem makes sightings reliable. You enjoy a picnic lunch beside a hippo pool before climbing back out.
Afterwards, you drive to Karatu and check in at Gibb’s Farm. This historic coffee plantation serves food grown in its own gardens. Tour the farm, grind coffee beans, and meet local artisans. An Iraqw community nearby also welcomes visitors for a short cultural walk. You learn about their farming methods and traditional homes. Adventurous guests can add a Hadzabe bushmen visit at Lake Eyasi.
Day 10: Lake Manyara and Mto wa Mbu
This morning, you drive to Lake Manyara National Park. A groundwater forest greets you at the gate, full of baboons and blue monkeys. Further on, the lake shore attracts flamingos, pelicans, and buffalo. Tree-climbing lions sometimes rest in the acacias. The compact park offers a gentler pace after the vast Serengeti.
In the afternoon, check in at Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge. The lodge overlooks the Rift Valley escarpment and the shimmering lake. Then join a guided walk through Mto wa Mbu, a lively market town. Taste banana beer, watch woodcarvers at work, and ride a local bicycle through the farms.
Day 11: Manyara to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, you drive to Tarangire National Park. The park is famous for giant baobab trees and large elephant herds. Between June and October, animals gather along the Tarangire River. Wildlife viewing therefore stays excellent in the dry season. Your afternoon game drive reveals lions, zebras, and wildebeest.
Tarangire Sopa Lodge perches above the plains. Swim in the pool and watch elephants wander past. After dinner, a naturalist leads a short talk on the park’s ecology. For culture, request a visit to a Barabaig or Maasai boma. These visits show how pastoral life continues beside the national park.
Day 12: Tarangire to Kigali
This morning, you enjoy a final game drive in Tarangire. Elephants often bathe in the river at this hour. Then you transfer to the airport for your flight to Kigali. The route usually connects through Nairobi. Your guide handles check-in assistance and transfer details at both ends.
You arrive in Rwanda by evening and settle into Kigali Serena Hotel. The city feels clean, calm, and welcoming. After dinner, stroll through the nearby Kigali Heights area. If energy remains, taste Rwandan coffee at a local café. Rwanda’s high-altitude beans have earned worldwide praise. Rest well, because gorillas await in two days.
Day 13: Kigali City Tour and Drive to Volcanoes
Today begins with a respectful visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The site honours the memory of those lost in 1994. It also shows how Rwanda rebuilt itself with unity and purpose. Our guides prepare you for this visit with care. Afterwards, explore Kimironko Market for local crafts and fresh produce. Art lovers can also stop at Inema Arts Center.
Then you drive north to Volcanoes National Park, about two and a half hours away. The road winds through terraced hills and busy villages. You check in at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. Volcano peaks rise right behind the property. Over dinner, plan tomorrow’s early start with your guide.
Day 14: Gorilla Trekking
This is the day many travellers dream about. After breakfast, you attend a briefing at the park headquarters. Rangers assign you to a gorilla family. Then you hike through bamboo forest and farmland. The trek can last two to six hours, depending on the group’s location.
When you meet the gorillas, time seems to slow. You spend one hour in their presence. Silverbacks, mothers, and playful infants move around you. Your permit fee supports conservation and local communities. Back at the lodge, rest and share the day with fellow trekkers. In the evening, Intore dancers perform with drums and energetic leaps. Their show celebrates Rwandan courage and heritage.
Day 15: Golden Monkeys and Iby’iwacu Village
Today adds a second primate to the 22-Day Kenya Tanzania Rwanda Wildlife, Primate & Cultural Adventure. Rangers lead you into the bamboo belt to find golden monkeys. These agile primates leap between stems and feed in noisy troops. The hike is gentler than gorilla trekking. Photographers love the bright orange fur against green leaves.
In the afternoon, visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village. Former poachers now lead cultural tours there. You grind sorghum, watch a traditional dance, and visit a healer’s hut. The experience shows how conservation changes lives around the park. You return to Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for a relaxed dinner.
Day 16: Volcanoes to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, you drive west to Lake Kivu, about three hours away. The road follows green ridges and passes busy markets. You check in at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel on the shore. Lunch comes with sweeping views of the water. Unlike the lakes in Kenya, Kivu holds no hippos. Swimming here feels safe and refreshing.
In the afternoon, take a boat ride to a small island. Local fishermen paddle past, singing in rhythm as they cast nets. Next, visit a nearby coffee washing station. Farmers show you how they sort, ferment, and dry the cherries. Then taste a fresh cup beside the lake. The visit supports cooperatives that employ hundreds of families.
Day 17: Lake Kivu to Nyungwe Forest
Today you follow the Congo-Nile Trail south toward Nyungwe Forest. The drive takes about five hours, but the scenery never tires. Hills roll away in every direction, and tea bushes cover the slopes. You stop at a tea estate near Gisakura. Workers guide you through the picking and drying process.
Nyungwe House sits inside a working tea plantation. Rooms look out over the ancient rainforest canopy. Late in the day, take a short guided walk along a forest trail. Colobus monkeys often leap through the trees nearby. Over dinner, review tomorrow’s plan with your guide. Pack warm layers, because mornings in Nyungwe feel cool.

7 Days One Week Rwanda Tour
Day 18: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Rise before dawn for chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe. Trackers set out early to locate the troop. You follow them along muddy trails under towering trees. Hearing the chimps’ calls echo through the forest gives you chills. Then you watch them feed, groom, and play. Nyungwe protects more than a dozen primate species.
After the trek, walk the famous canopy bridge. This steel walkway hangs 50 metres above the forest floor. The views reach across the treetops for miles. Afterwards, drive about six hours to Kigali. You check in at Kigali Serena Hotel and rest. Dinner at the hotel closes a full and rewarding day.
Day 19: Flight to Entebbe and Mabamba Swamp
After an early breakfast, you fly from Kigali to Entebbe. The flight takes about one hour. Your driver meets you and heads straight to Mabamba Swamp. There you glide through papyrus channels in a canoe led by a local boatman. The rare shoebill stork often stands motionless in the reeds. Kingfishers and jacanas add colour to the morning.
Later, check in at Protea Hotel Entebbe. The hotel sits beside Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake. Enjoy a late lunch at the water’s edge. If time allows, walk through the Entebbe Botanical Gardens. Black-and-white colobus monkeys swing through the trees there. Dinner follows on the terrace as the sun sets over the lake.
Day 20: Entebbe to Jinja and a Basoga Village
After breakfast, you drive east to Jinja, the adventure capital of East Africa. The journey takes about three hours. The road crosses lively trading towns and green tea hills. You check in at The Haven Lodge, which sits beside the Nile. Lunch on the riverbank prepares you for the days ahead.
In the afternoon, visit a Basoga village near Jinja. Local families show you how they farm, cook, and weave. You can taste fresh matooke and sip local tea. Their warm welcome adds a human touch to the river adventure. Back at the lodge, relax with a cold drink. Ask the team about their community conservation projects along the Nile.
Day 21: Nile White-Water Rafting
Today brings the adrenaline highlight of the trip. After breakfast, you meet your rafting guides at the river. They give a clear safety briefing and fit your helmet and life jacket. Then you paddle into the rapids. The 22-Day Kenya Tanzania Rwanda Wildlife, Primate & Cultural Adventure shifts gear here, from quiet safari to thrilling adventure.
White-water rafting on the Nile ranks among the best in the world. You tackle Grade 3 to Grade 5 rapids with expert guidance. Calm stretches between rapids let you swim and rest. Safety kayakers travel beside every raft. Afterwards, enjoy a hot lunch on the riverbank. Then return to the lodge and share stories over a farewell dinner.
Day 22: Source of the Nile and Departure
On your final morning, you take a gentle boat trip to the source of the Nile. The spot marks where Lake Victoria feeds the great river. Birdlife is rich here, and the water feels peaceful. Your guide shares the history of the explorers who searched for this place.
After lunch, you drive to Entebbe International Airport. The transfer takes about three hours. Our team schedules the drive so you arrive in good time. You leave with full memories, strong friendships, and a deeper bond with Africa. The 22-Day Kenya Tanzania Rwanda Wildlife, Primate & Cultural Adventure ends here. However, the connection with Terenga Africa continues long after you land.
